174MHz ‘Foxhunting/DF’ 4 Element OWA (Optimised Wideband Array) Yagi

174MHz 'Foxhunting/DF' 4 Element OWA (Optimised Wideband Array) Yagi

Vortex Bespoke design 174Mhz Wideband Yagi OWA Antenna for Foxhunting/DF (Direction Finding)

A bespoke design antenna for Foxhunting/DF (Direction Finding) purposes. The antenna shown was specifically made to track a transmitter fitted to an animal. Vortex were asked to design this antenna for a commercial customer who needed to track the animal over a fairly wide area spanning several miles.

By careful design, this 4 element OWA (Optimised Wideband Array) has a wonderful flat response from 171 to 177 Mhz as the buyer wanted a wide coverage as various frequencies were used for tracking. The system exhibits a very good front to back and front to side ratio with 25db rejection directly from the rear and over 30db from the side lobes which is useful for tracking or direction finding purposes.

This antenna is now available as part of the Vortex line-up. However, if you require a similar antenna (but for another frequency) – then please drop us a line as we are happy to design a similar unit for other frequencies.
