A 4 element horizontally polarised ‘Delta Loop’ for the 6m band from our ‘Heavy Duty’ range with an extended boom length. Manufactured from lightweight but extremely strong construction grade 6082-T6 Aluminium stock with a heavy duty boom. This antenna was manufactured as an experiment to create a high performance DX antenna and to see if the loop (with one element less) would match or beat a 5 element horizontal Yagi of similar boom length. In the summer of 2011 a review was kindly undertaken by Chris Danby G0DWV and Steve Nichols G0KYA for the RSGB’s – RADCOM publication. As you will see, it’s quite an eye opener – read on.

Following initial modelling in EZNEC+, it was apparent that the Delta antenna exhibited a very low angle of radiation, being only 5 degrees at a height of 15 meters. The Yagi would have a much higher angle of radiation at the same height. The gain of the Delta also exceeded 11dbi with good front to back of over 30db at 50.120Mhz. As a comparison, the gain of the Yagi would be less at around 10.35dbi. As standard, all 6m heavy duty Vortex Delta Loops include 8mm Element Brackets, H/Duty Polyamide Stauff Element Clamps and all systems come complete with M10 Stainless Hardware. Antenna is supplied with all hardware except boom to mast mount (see below).

– Antenna reviewed by G0DWV Chris and G0KYA Steve

“We work’d IZ5ILX in Italy who said that the Vortex was 4 S points stronger than Chris’s five-element Yagi. F5MAG in France said that the Delta Loop was 1 S point stronger. On ground wave G3MWV in Cromer (about 18 miles away) saw a slight difference in favour of the Vortex and G4DCJ (about 40 miles away) said we were “2 S points stronger on the Delta”. This suggests that on the longer haul contacts, the Vortex Delta Loop has a significant advantage.

Folowing this review we now imagine what a Vortex 6 Element 6M6 Delta would perform like :) – at nearly 12.5dbi foward gain.
Here at Vortex we can build bespoke personal solutions for your own requirements.
