After a period of work and optimisation, Vortex very proudly announce an antenna to be a force to reckon with. The antenna is based on a five element Delta Loop but has an enhanced level of forward gain and a side/rear pattern that has minimal side or rear lobes.

The front to back ratio is approaching 40db and you can see from the EZNEC computer model that very little RF energy is transmitted in a side or rearwards direction. This means that most available RF is forward facing – just where the DX is!!. Forward gain is approaching 11.6dbi. Normally for this gain, you’d expect a Yagi to have a boom length of around 11m; equating to 6 or 7 elements. As a bonus, the natural impedance of the array is around the 50 ohms point although we include a gamma match which gives the user full adjustment capabilities.

Also worth noting is the extreme low angle of radiation. Based on a height of 15 meters above ground, the antenna exhibits an exceptionally low angle of radiation. In this case 9 degrees above the horizon. This makes for a very potent long haul DX antenna. An equivalent Yagi (as modelled) would have a higher radiation angle approaching 12 degrees using a similar 5 element antenna at the same height. During testing the 2 to 1 SWR bandwidth was between 26.500 and 27.850 Mhz and was below 1 to 1.5 from 26.750 to 27.750 Mhz. The main images are of the Super Heavy Duty installation at 26SD117, Geoff in the UK.

Manufactured from lightweight but extremely strong construction grade 6082-T6 Aluminium stock with a heavy duty boom. This antenna includes 6.35mm wide section plate element brackets to compliment 3 sections (or 4 in the Super HD version) of aluminium tubes used in the vertical sections of the elements. Heavy Duty Polyamide Element Clamps, complete with M10 Stainless Hardware is supplied as standard. Large antennas such as this model also come complete with an additional ‘T-Bar’ horizontal strut/support. This support is used to reduce boom sag and anchors the boom in four (4) locations, 2 at the front and 2 at the rear. By using four support points (rather than two) – also reduces the sideways movement of the boom. For our guying line we use ‘Mastrant’ 4mm synthetic guy line which is rated at 400kgs. To compliment the setup, S3i 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel Eyebolts, Turnbuckles and Hardware finish the project. The antenna is supplied with all hardware except boom to mast mount (see below).

The top wires on each loop are manufactured from copper-clad steel (in essence copper coated stainless steel) which is extremely strong and robust. The breaking strain of this alone is over 250kgs. This wire is the secured using marine-grade (316 stainless) hardware and Vortex’s unique “Cable Strain Relief Mechanism” which pretty well eliminates a top-wire failure. Download our TOP-WIRE info sheet. The antenna is supplied with all hardware except boom to mast mount (see below).

JUST INTRODUCED
Vortex present a Super Heavy Duty version which includes a 3″ (76.2mm) x 1/4 ” (6.35mm) wall center boom section and 2 outer sections of 2.5″ (63.5mm) x 3/16ths (4.76mm) wall. Price also includes our Plate ‘D’ mounting plate and full stainless hardware to fit either a 2 inch or 2.5 inch stub mast. The Super HD version reduces boom sag to a minimum.

VORTEX BOOM TO MAST PLATES
All VORTEX Antennas can be shipped WITHOUT any boom to mast mounting plates. Select this option from the drop-down menu when purchasing. Other options include the choice of mounting plates and complete mounting solutions with U-Bolts and Brackets.

Fully optimised 4, 6, 10 and 12m versions of this antenna offering the same enhanced level of performance are also available. Contact us for further information.

What people say about this antenna:
Reg 14IR017 says: “Spent the afternoon at Mr BIG’s place (14SD213) working on the Vortex Delta Loop 5 HD … AMAZING !!!! Tested with 9AT/000, 14DA/SI and Jan in 153 div. Most often 3-4, up to 5 S-points difference between the Delta and the GB Towers Yagi 5 short boom … Even at 7mtrs high, Jan came from 5/7-8 to a big fat 59+10 , 59+20. What was the more stunning was to hear the difference on backscatter, most BS signals were 5/7-9 … heard some people I’d never heard so well or never heard at all … A whole new world ! As if you had plugs in the ears and suddenly removed them! – Have fun , Mr BIG ! You’ve got the ultimate weapon now !
