A 6 element Vortex Tornado Yagi (Lightweight) design for operation within the 88 to 108Mhz (Band II) Commercial FM band. The antenna exhibits a excellent gain figure of just under 10dbi, including a healthy front to back of around 30db. The antenna shown was built for a customer who required a center frequency of 107.5MHz, however we can design the system for a center frequency of your choice within Band II; just let us know your preference. Typical 2 to 1 bandwidth was 7MHz for this antenna and we would expect at least a 6Mhz 2 to 1 limit even on an antenna centered around the lower part of the band. Final tuning is achieved by adjustment of the hairpin match on the driven element to obtain the best match.

During testing with the antenna only at around 3 feet, a backend on signal from ‘Connect FM’ on 106.800 Mhz at the ‘Gunthorpe – Peterborough transmitter which is approx 15 miles away, went from S5-6 rearward facing to S9/+20 and more when beaming towards the transmitter. Obviously you can’t rely soleley on ‘S’ meter readings but this suggests a healthy front to back of around 25-30db, maybe slightly more.

The antenna is manufactured from Vortex commercial grade 6082-T6 aluminium, including our premium grade element tubes together with full stainless fittings and Stauff hardware. Antenna is supplied with all hardware except boom to mast mount (see below).

VORTEX BOOM TO MAST PLATES
All VORTEX Antennas can be shipped WITHOUT any boom to mast mounting plates. Select this option from the dropdown menu when purchasing. Other options include the choice of mounting plates and complete mounting solutions with U-Bolts and Brackets.
