VORTEX ANTENNA SYSTEMS – HARDWARE

At VORTEX we have one statement that stands above everything else.

“ To Build an Antenna System that we’d be proud to install ourselves in the knowledge that it was built to Last “

ALUMINIUM ELEMENT TUBES (6082-T6 & *AA6082-T6)
As of Jan 2015, Vortex are unable to supply individual aluminium tubes. Tubes are supplied for complete antennas only.

VORTEX ALUMINIUM – NOT ALL ALLOYS ARE THE SAME
At VORTEX we use a minimum specification of 6082-T6 Industrial Structural Grade Aluminium Alloy (310mpa) which represents our element tubes. These are specially manufactured for VORTEX in England. Some other manufacturers continue to use the cheaper grade 6060-T6 and 6063-T6 variants. These other alloys are classed purely for ‘General Purpose Use’ and in terms of strength are considerably well below 6082-T6, being 76% and 23% respectively LESS in strength.

Our manufacturing partner also supplies our 5 telescopic element tubing in the AA6082-T6 variant. This alloy has additional strength (340mpa) mainly associated with some 7xxx series super high strength constructional alloys and depending on stock availability, VORTEX antenna elements are supplied using either 6082-T6, AA6082-T6 or a combination of both. We make no additional charge for AA6082-T6.

ALUMINIUM STOCK – TABLE OF TENSILE STRENGTH (Ultimate Tensile Strength in mpa)
6060-T6 t*MPA=190 (Used by some European Antenna Manufacturers – A ‘General Purpose Low Grade’ Alloy)
6063-T6 t*MPA=241 (Used by some European Antenna Manufacturers – A ‘General Purpose’ Alloy)
6061-T6 t*MPA=290 (Used by some USA Manufacturers – Alloy commonly known as ‘Aircraft Quality’)
6082-T6 t*MPA=310 (VORTEX equivalent of 6061-T6 – but is about 8-10% stronger – A Construction Grade Alloy)
AA6082-T6 MPA=340 (Used for VORTEX Elements when available) – A Construction Grade Alloy
6026-T9 F37 MPA=390 (Planned future production for VORTEX Elements) – A Construction Grade Alloy

Before deciding who to purchase your new antenna from – understand the build quality.
Vortex AA6082-T6 is over 17% stronger than 6061-T6 American ‘Aircraft Quality’ stock
Vortex AA6082-T6 is over 41% stronger than 6063-T6 General Purpose Alloy and is nearly 79% stronger than some 6060-T6 variants often used in Europe.

VORTEX ELEMENT CLAMPS
In developing our range of antenna systems, we’ve carefully looked at what was available in today’s modern market. Following a period of research, we settled on a ‘STAUFF’ premium clamp manufactured to DIN 3015 by Walter Stauffenberg GmbH & Co KG (Germany). These clamps are primarily designed for the hydraulic, oil and gas industries. A product that’s designed to withstand this type of harsh environment fits well for our antenna portfolio. Vortex only use the premium ‘Black Polyamide Clamps’ rather than the ‘Green’ Polypropylene clamps. The polyamide clamps are *125% stronger and have a superior UV resistance than the ‘Green’ versions.

POWER RATINGS – DELTA LOOP, YAGI and OWA ANTENNAS
Vortex Antenna Systems Delta Loop, Yagi and OWA Arrays have been initially tested as below.
VORTEX HAIRPIN MATCH ANTENNA SYSTEMS
All solid metal construction 6082-T6 Aluminium and Stainless Fittings – Tested fine at *3.5kw
VORTEX GAMMA MATCH ANTENNA SYSTEMS
All 6082-T6 Aluminium outer Gamma Tube with Polyflon Technologies ® PTFE Insert and stainless fittings.
Inner Gamma rod 7.9mm solid Aluminium 6082-T6 – Tested fine at *3.5kw
VORTEX OWA ARRAY ANTENNA SYSTEMS
No matching required – antenna tested fine to *3.5kw

* Vortex Antennas have been tested to this level with no breakdown. However, the systems maybe able to take more but this cannot be verified. Tested with Command Technologies HF2500E Amp with 3 x 3CX800A7 Eimac outputs.

VORTEX HARDWARE
All VORTEX hardware has been carefully selected for your antenna. Our U-Bolts, Clamps and Heavy Duty Boom to Mast Plates are bespoke and manufactured especially for Vortex by our engineering partners here in East Anglia and the West Midlands. Where necessary, Stainless Steel is used in items such as U-Bolts, Saddle Clamps, Washers, Nuts and Bolts etc. Our element clamps are used as standard fittings in the Oil, Tube and Gas industry.

VORTEX BOOM TO MAST PLATES
All VORTEX Antennas can be shipped WITHOUT any boom to mast mounting plates. Three options are available from the dropdown menu when purchasing, including the choice of mounting plates and complete mounting solutions with U-Bolts and Brackets.
We have 4 plates available. Plates A, B and C are manufactured from 8mm 6082-T6 Aluminium stock and are immensely strong. These suit all current Vortex antenna arrays and fit boom diameters of 30mm, 38.1mm (1.5 inch) and 50.8mm (2.0 inches) and mast diameters of 50.8mm (2.0 inches) and 63.5mm (2.5 inches). Plate ‘D’ is our heavy duty plate. Manufacturerd from 10mm diameter 6082-T6 aluminium stock and laser drilled, this plate is designed for our larger antenna systems. Plates can be ordered directly online from within the ‘Accessories’ section of the shop.
Plate ‘A’
Will accommodate 30mm & 38.1mm (1.5 inch) booms with U-Bolts & Saddles suitable for 50.8mm (2.0 inch) masts.
Plate ‘B’
Will accommodate 50.8mm (2.0 inch) booms with U-Bolts & Saddles suitable for 50.8mm (2.0 inch) masts.
Plate ‘C’
Will accommodate 50.8mm (2.0 inch) booms with U-Bolts & Saddles suitable for 63.5mm (2.5 inch) masts.
Plate ‘D’
Will accommodate 38.1mm (1.5 inch) or 50.8mm (2.0 inch) booms with U-Bolts & Saddles suitable for 50.8mm (2.0 inch) or 63.5mm (2.5 inch) masts.

VORTEX BOOM TO MAST PLATE MOUNTING HARDWARE
All VORTEX Antennas can be shipped WITHOUT any boom to mast mounting hardware, but we have a variety of hardware available for both 2.0″ (50.8mm) and 2.5″ (63mm) masts. To compliment this, 2 sizes of fully stainless Saddle clamps and 3 sizes of U-bolt are available; all are bespoke and manufactured especially for VORTEX Antennas.

SUPER HEAVY DUTY SADDLE CLAMPS
When only the best will do. These are the ‘Rolls Royce’ of saddle clamps and are produced mainly for the hydraulic, oil and gas industry and are as tough as you’ll get!. Manufactured from high grade cast aluminium to DIN3015, they are supplied complete with a 10mm thick stainless steel faceplate. To complete the package, 304 A2 Stainless Steel Allen head bolts (M12) and hardware is also included. We can supply the clamps to fit the following diameter masts, 1.5”, 2.0”, 2.25”, 2.5”, 2.75”, 3.0”, 3.25” and 3.5”.
